Parents as Brain Surgeons for Literacy Learning

This workshop is geared toward parents but can also be valuable for educators of young children from infancy through 2nd grade. The training focuses on how parenting interactions shapes the brain for later reading skills. Parents are brain surgeons who sculpt the brain of their child through their interactions. Information will be presented on brain development and how to set the brain up for reading success. It will also cover how to help children with learning disabilities, such as dyslexia and dyspraxia, and how to spot signs of these so they can be helped early on. Parents will learn how simple day-to-day activities they already do at home can be used to teach early literacy skills.
